Solar Energy and High Efficiency Homes
Energy House Technology supports the use of both Solar Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Hot Water. We offer Solar Site Surveys with full shade analysis and estimated annual power generation using the latest NREL data. We also offerSolar Power expertise on added features and the latest technology on the market to maximize the efficiency of the solar system. Solar energy continues to become more affordable as time goes by. Both state and federal tax incentives exist for solar installations. Click HERE to learn more about the tax incentives for renewable energy as well as energy retrofits to your home. We strongly recommend that the home be made as energy efficient as possible before investing in a renewable energy system. Why? Energy retrofits on a low, to mid energy efficient home offer better return on your investment. There are usually a number of retrofits to the home that have short payback periods - some less than 1 year. Implementing energy efficiency retrofits reduces the home’s overall energy consumption. Once these retrofits are in place and the energy consumption is reduced, adding renewable energy sources to the home, to lower the total energy costs, is the next logical step.

Is Your Home Right For Solar?

Homeowners often wonder how efficient their home really is and what retrofits should be implemented to maximize the efficiency. Energy House Technology offers the most comprehensive Home Energy Audits available. Our Energy Audits look at your home as a ‘system’. We provide a clear roadmap of what actions you should implement to make your home energy efficient – from the shortest payback on down. After the implementation of our recommended energy retrofits, your home will be primed for Solar! Click HERE to learn more about our comprehensive Home Energy Audits.

Standardized Energy Index For Homes

A national program exists for rating a home’s energy efficiency. The HERS Index was developed to rate homes based on their energy efficiency features. The HERS Rating results in a HERS Index. The lower the HERS Index, the more efficient and less fossil fuel is used by the home. A HERS Index of zero would represent a highly efficienct home with enough renewable on-site energy (such as solar) to supply the energy needs of the home. These homes typically have grid-tied solar systems that sell excess generated electricity during the day to the utility company and buy back energy at night - the sum energy requirement being zero or less. This combination of high building efficiency and on-site renewable energy results in a low HERS Index. The resulting Energy Rating Guide Certificate received from an Energy Rating with a low HERS Index can be a valuable document to the home owner.
